John T. Mccutcheon Analysis

Victims of their own Burning his soul with a smoke and talking to a squirrel? Obviously a sad guy! John T. McCutcheon’s old cartoon shows us a conversation between an old American man being asked by a squirrel the reason why he did not save any money for the future. He answers, seemingly with a sad tone: “I Did”. Moreover, he is said to be a victim of bank failure. The cartoon represents the effects of the Great Depression and how harsh it was to the American citizens by using pathos through a sad character who is a victim of a bank failure, and logos through a squirell who stands for the future and how it is effected by the incident. John Tinney McCutcheon, the author of the cartoon, is a political cartoonist who was active during the early 1900s. John used to work for American newspapers and …show more content…
People would expect “I wish I did” instead of “I did” due to the situation that guy is. Technically, this could lead us to the fact that the guy cares more about the future than he cares about himself. However, I do not agree with this thought because of the awful situation he’s in. The Great depression was a big deal to all Americans, and it was a shock to the world of economy. This cartoon grabbed a lot of attention even after the death of the author himself. The fact that he showed us how bad the tragedy was while connecting it with the future at his time doubled up his audience and made the cartoon spread even more. In my opinion, the author has done a great job by using simplicity of a drawing to represent a really difficult situation that a nation couldn’t solve. Moreover, he used all different kinds of rhetorical keys to attract more people and show a long message within a short cartoon. However, as many possibilities as there are to view the cartoon, the tragedy will always be looked at with sad emotions to all

So this Personal Finance Company tried to promote that they have money for people to loans and at the bottom it says “People from every walk of life borrow here…” it means it is not only poor people or the workers who were unemployed that suffered from the Great Depression, everyone else has the same problem too. We all know during the Great Depression (1929-1939) it is the downturn of the economy, 13 to 15 million Americans were unemployed, businesses were closed, the investment dropped. This cartoonist shows us a lot about how the Great Depression affected the people and their lives. In my opinion, the people who saw this advertisement would be interested in it in the way it provides them money during the rough time furthermore, it is easy to loans money because they have 4 loan plans for you and 20 repayment plans for you. So, when people saw the 20 repayment plans they would be more interested in it because it might give them more choices in paying back the money they loan.…

I think a domestic violence history should definitely be a factor in child custody and visitation. My main reason for feeling this way is not to punish the parent or guardian, but solely for the safety of the child. According to this week’s lecture, the risk of children being abused is higher in a domestic violence home. Also 30 to 60 % of domestic violence abusers also abuse children. (Black, 2015, Slide 17) I also think a domestic violence history should be a factor in child custody and visitation because the right measures and precautions needs to be set in place.…

There are few things that traditional western culture values more than protecting the innocence of a child. It is not often considered, but many go to great lengths to guard this intangible element of childhood. “The Shabbat”, an excerpt from Marjane Satrapi’s graphic memoir Persepolis, chronicles young Satrapi’s loss of innocence in a terrible way. This comic tells the story of a little Iranian girl who is living through the Islamic Revolution, all from a first-person retrospective point of view. In other words, this story recounts the horrors that a little girl faces in a war zone.…
