Where Kino and Juana were comfortable and contempt, they were now in a place of strong tension.

4. What do they do with the pearl?

At the end of chapter 6 in The Pearl, Kino takes the pearl and heaves it with all of his might into the ocean. “And Kino drew back his arm and flung the pearl with all his might (Pg.89).” Juana and Kino both wanted nothing to do with the pearl and Juana asked Kino to throw it. What once meant wealth and great living to Kino, now meant nothing but evil to him.

5. What does the return of Kino and Juana and their throwing away the pearl mean symbolically?

At the end of The Pearl, by coming home and disposing of the pearl, I think that Kino and Juana showed that you do not need everything in life to be happy. “And Kino drew back his arm and flung the pearl with all his might (Pg.89).” Kino and Juana threw the pearl into the ocean and wished things had never changed.
