Mental Disabilities A hereditary mental disability is, “a disease or disorder that is inherited genetically” (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/hereditary+disease). When a caregiver, “a family member or paid helper who regularly look after a child or a sick, elderly, or disabled person”(webster), is given the responsibility of taking care of someone with a mental illness they are often faced with many challenges such as doing all the normal responsibilities including cooking, and cleaning, they aren't able to get out much and visit friends and emotional and mental stress. In the early 1930’s the mentally disabled were seen as less than human, looked down upon in society and only had a life expectancy of 20 years. Black Thursday was on October 29, 1929, which marked the start of the Great Depression. It was also the day when stocks dropped 13%. The Great Depression created many issues such as unemployment, failing of banks, drought conditions, crime rates increased and large amounts of migration. People managed themselves during the Great Depression by growing foods from home, not buying anything with a credit card, helping neighbors, not buying and a thing with credit. This allowed them to use what they have and preserve the money they had saved up to buy only the necessary items. The New Deal, ”was a series of domestic programs enacted in the United States between 1933 and 1938, and a few that came later. They included both laws passed by Congress as well as presidential executive orders during the first term (1933–37) of President Franklin D. Roosevelt” (encyclopedia).
