Of mice and men has some interesting side characters with little to no use in the overall story. These characters include Whit, Carlson, and The Boss. These characters only really have one important place in the story. Whit’s only really “important” part is the curly asks where his wife is. Carlson has more part in the story, but that does not compensate for his lack of character. He is boring, mean, and an overall bad character. Now for the boss, the bosses only job in the book is to be the boss and being curly’s father. He gets mentioned a few times and only really shows up once in the entire story. This phenomenon is seen in many different pieces of literature such as Romeo and Juliet, The Hobbit, Julius Caesar, and even Hamlet. Of mice and men has two main moments where this is seen. One is when curley's wife goes into the barn with Lennie and when curley’s wife married Curley. When she goes into the barn, she knows what Lennie is capable of, she had seen what he had done to Curley’s hand and when she is in the barn, she finds out that he had accidentally killed a puppy she should have realized that he is dangerous and I should leave. Even before the barn incident when she got into an argument with her mom which caused her to married Curley impulsively which seems to be her main
