Loneliness in Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck was born on February 27, 1902 in Salinas, California. In high school he was a good student and a good athlete. When it came to college his attendance and academics were not good. He was mostly interested in biological and ecological but never completed the degree. He became an American author, who has written twenty seven books and sixteen of them are novels. Mostly known, for his comic novels Tortilla Flat and Cannery Row, the mutli-generation epic East of Eden, and the novellas Of Mice and Men and The Red Pony. Some say The Grapes of Wrath, which won the Pulitzer Price, is his masterpiece. Also he is the winner of the 1962 Nobel Prize in Literature and is called “a giant of American letters”. …show more content…
Steinbeck does not give her a name because she mimics the movie-star image and a dream of being famous in Hollywood (Thesing, William B. “John Steinbeck”). In the book she is rejected whenever she is trying to talk to one of the workers because she is the “bringer of trouble”. She gets called a “tart” by some of the workers because of her actions thought out the book. Meaning sex and flirting behavior leads men murder and cause destruction (Thesing, William B. “John Steinbeck” Np). She confides in Lennie and George in the book, which is the reason for Lennies’ tragic ending in the novel. She tells Lennie, she feels trapped and how she doesn’t like Curely (Attel, Kevin. “Overview of Of Mice and Men.” Np).First feeling trapped by her mom because she stopped Curelys’ wife from perusing her acting and modeling career she dreams of. Also feels claustrophobia in her small town of Salinas (Attel, Kevin. “Overview of Of Mice and Men.” Np). She states the reason why she got married to Curely’,even thought she does not like him, is because she wanted to get away from her mom (Attel, Kevin. “Overview of Of Mice and Men.” Np). In her final scene she confides to Lennie, he calls her a “tart”. Instead of her getting mad she uses being “raised in a nice home” and she was “brung up by nice people” as a defense to his comment (Griesbach, Daniel.
