Curley 's wife is a great example of displaying loneliness. In chapter 5, she approaches Lennie in the barn and expresses her feelings about being lonely. "I get lonely. You can talk to people, but I can 't talk to anybody but Curley. Else he gets mad. How 'd you like not to talk to anybody?" (Steinbeck 87). In this quote, she is displaying how she wishes to just have someone to talk to, but Curley won 't let. During Curley 's wife and Lennie 's conversation, she explains how her life would 've been different if she became an actress. "I met a guy...he says he was gonna put me in the movies...he was gonna write to me about it. I never got the letter...So I married Curley...Coulda been in the movies, an ' had nice clothes—all the nice clothes like they wear" (Steinbeck 88 & 89). Curley 's wife obviously doesn 't love Curley; she just wanted a getaway from her mother. At the age of fifteen, she had a passion to be an actress, but her mother wouldn’t let her because she was too young. When one has big dreams, they tend to follow it. It’s what helps the person live life and give them hope that someday their dreams would come true. Hope in her had died when the guy didn’t send her a letter about being in Hollywood. She had believed that her own mother stole the letter. As humans, we have to face the fact that not everything can be perfect. In Of Mice & Men, friendship is portrayed by simply being with that person, healing the long-time loneliness in one 's heart, and simply listening to one 's story or feelings. Only friendship can heal the loneliness that one feels. Similarly, no one ever likes to be alone; not even animals. If humans were to never experience loneliness, one would never know the true meaning of friendship. Friendship was always meant to mend loneliness; not one could live without
