A Comparison Of Society In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men

People and society is slow to change because they don’t understand certain people .Society and people treat people differently because don’t understand the mentally challenged. People treat or neglect challenged people because they are not normal, And when society does not see normal they are very misunderstanding of their circumstances. In my family I have a cousin who has a mental disability and he has a lot of opportunities to get help unlike Lennie. He goes to a special schooling system where people don 't judge him in anyway. Lennie did not have that. He 's a static character because of his childlike behavior that does not change throughout the book. When Lennie pulled on a women 's blouse in chapter one. It was is an example of how lennie is not fit to change within society because in society that is not acceptable but lennie doesn 't know any better. This leads to the idea of if you don 't fit in society they won 't change for you, because they didn 't change for lennie in that instance. Another example of Lennie not changing is when he kills the mice on there way to the ranch Lennie had a dead mouse in his hand because it reminded him of his aunt, George yells at him because ‘normal’ people don 't hold or pet a dead animal .this relates back to him touching the dress because he likes to touch soft things. Lennie doing this did not fit into the societal norm seeing as though Lennie thinks as a child and acts like a child is not helping him because he 's a grown man. Lennie crushing the mice foreshadows the frailty of his dreams and the inevitable way they, will be crushed. Lennie 's dreams will be crushed because he is incapable of self regulation. When Lennie drank from the dirty lake that is an example of him not showing self regulation because he can 't control himself when he does that kind of stuff while the other people in society can regulate themselves from doing such thing. Lennie does now learn from his mistakes because he doesn 't know better. The rest of the characters would have learned from their mistakes because they don 't have the mental mind of Lennie.
