A very appealing novella called The Pearl, written by John Steinbeck, is a story about a pearl and its effect on society. A man named Kino found a pearl that is worth a lot of money. Money and desire impact people in the world every single day. Some people say that money can change a person’s life, but others say that money does not change lives. Money and desire can change a person’s life because it causes people to become addicted to valuable possessions, their behavior is abnormal, and it may lead to greed.

Money can really change anyone whether they were rich or poor before receiving or earning it. When someone has money, they do not really think about what it was like before they had an abundance of money. A person’s mood transitions, and all they think about is what they can do with the money they have. For instance, when Kino found the pearl “he wondered what the pearl would be worth” (Steinbeck 21). Kino wondering how much the pearl is worth shows that he is thinking about money and how wealthy he could be. He was not very happy when Juana had the pearl. Steinbeck wrote, “Her arm was about to throw when he leaped at her and caught her arm and wrenched the pearl from her. He struck her in the face with his clenched fist” (59). This shows that Kino was greedy and did not want Juana to have the pearl. Having money can usually change a person’s life, the money can make them feel …show more content…
The interesting novella written by John Steinbeck called The Pearl is mainly about how finding a pearl can affect a community. Whenever money is around, somebody’s life will have a transformation. Having wealth is something that gets into a person’s mind and causes them to be different. Even though money can cause behavioral issues, it can benefit others in the long run.
