John Smith was an English soldier and adventurer and was the first one to draw the map of the Chesapeake Bay and New England. He went to Virginia and Chesapeake Bay in 1608 and 1609. When the settlers and Smith arrived in Jamestown, he taught them how to farm and work to get the colony growing. There were times where the Powhatan Indians attacked the colony, and, because of that Smith was hurt and had to go back to England.
Pocahontas was an Indian who was given to the Potomac Indians for protection by her father Powhatan. Later on, the Potomac traded her to the English in 1613 and there she fell in love with John Rolfe. To be with him, she changed her name and converted to a Christian. Bacon was also a member of Berkeley's council. The reason for why the rebellion was formed was because the Governor, William Berkeley, refused to fight back when the Native Americans attacked and didn’t protect the settlements from the attacks. Then, Bacon disregarded Berkeley’s commands and took the rest of his men south to look for the Susquehannocks. As him and his men were in search of the tribe, they came across the Occaneechees, who gave them a place to stay. When they found out what Bacon wanted to do, they went and attacked the tribe themselves. Then, Bacon’s men killed the Occaneechees and took their fur, including the people held captive. When Bacon was arrested, he escaped and headed towards Jamestown, where he burned it. Then, Bacon died unexpectedly from dysentery.
