Elizabeth shows this when she says “you must go to Salem, John. Tell them it is a fraud.”(1237) she says this when she is attempting to convince John Proctor to do the right thing and tell the court that the girl’s stories are a farce. Another time someone attempts to convince someone to do the right thing is when Rebecca Nurse is attempting to convince the town that Betty is not in fact possessed by the devil but is instead in one of her “silly seasons” stating that she will “wake when she tires of it.”(1226) Even though Rebecca Nurse states this she is quickly contradicted by a more prominent figure in society, Mrs. Putnam.
