I, John Proctor, present myself to you as an innocent man. Yes, I have committed adultery, but that should not subject me to death. I have felt the guilt of my affair for many months since, yet never confessed for fear of losing my good name. I now stand before you, town of Salem, to right the wrongs that have been made and to put a stop to the witchcraft allegations made by none other than Abigail Williams and Mary Warren. My wife Elizabeth has done nothing but good things for this town, yet you choose to punish her for the sake of your own souls?
