In Chapter 265, section 1 of Massachusetts law it states “Murder committed with deliberately premeditated malice…...is murder in the first degree..” But, Abigail Williams did not deliberately want to kill anyone. All she wanted was to save the people of Salem. In Salem there were witches that were sent by the Devil and she wanted to save the pure souls of the people in Salem. Just like any person in Salem, I go to church every Sunday and so does Abigail Williams. Abigail is a person of God and would not lie or sin to hurt the people of Salem. But, it is known that John Proctor has not been continuously going to church. He has not been taking Sundays off from working on the field. He has not been faithful to his wife. Reverend Parris is the main Reverend of the church and people trust him to make the right decision. If he thinks that John Proctor works with the Devil people are more inclined to believe him.

Why do you think he blamed Abigail of lying?

Reverend Parris doesn’t like John Proctor, therefore he is most likely going to take Abigail 's side and talk positively about her and negatively about him.

Reverend Parris most likely believes Abigail is innocent. Because the people of Salem trust him, they are likely to take his side.

If Abigail Williams goes to church every Sunday it proves that she is a good Puritan. Also, it she will appeal to the Puritans that also go to church every Sunday.

Do you see the Proctors at church often?

By not seeing John Proctor at church it shows that he is not a good Puritan and it appeals negatively to the public.
