Back then like way before the 1900s it was believed that witches were real. In the play, the crucible by Arthur miller, salem was under the witch trials. A girl and a cousin were both suspects but then became victims because they claimed they under the power of other women in the town. As people started to be accused more and more chaos awoke. John proctor is around 40-60 years of age when he becomes a suspect and victim in the salem witch trials. He is a hero, a failure, has strengths and weaknesses and has many conflicts with characters.
John proctor is somewhat a hero. Due to his confessions him and whomever was hanged with him, hanged with pride. They committed a sin, but turned out to be innocent. They were in God’s hands when they died. He was a hero because even though he did commit a sin he opened up the town's people's eyes and the judges eyes to who Abigail really was. “I have known her”(947).
