20 people lost their lives during the Salem Witch Trials in 1692. Most people hanged, only one was pressed by stone and seven died while in jail. The events of the witch trails became so well known that Arthur Miller decided to write a play based off of it called The Crucible. Some of the people who were falsely accused of witchcraft and hanged during the Salem Witch Trials were John Proctor and Giles Corey.
