John Paul Jones As A Hero During The American Revolutionary War

Hero: “a person admired for bravery, great deeds, or noble qualities” (“Hero”). Many heros arose and helped others throughout the American Revolutionary War. During the years of this war, 1775-1783, what it means to be a hero became clear. A hero wasn’t someone who was just nice; a hero was someone who is brave,confident, and strong. These people became heroes because of the magnificent things that they did for this country. Three heroes who helped America beat the British were: John Paul Jones, Nathan Hale, and Nancy Hart. John Paul Jones proved he was a brave hero from the night he led his crew through the brutal battle at sea. One night John Paul Jones was sailing along the east coast of Europe when he encountered a British ship. (“John Paul Jones …show more content…
Right away the British got on top and asked “Are you ready to surrender” ? John Paul Jones said “I have not yet begun to fight” (King,29). The Redcoats (British fighters) and John Paul Jones fought back and forth for a long, violent, three and a half hours and John Paul Jones ship was starting to sink. (Coggins 107). Then John Paul Jones in the middle of battle managed to tie his ship to a British ship and forced the Redcoats to surrender. (Coggins 107). John Paul Jones had a very successful career taking down around 15 British ships which proves John Paul Jones to be a determined hero.

In addition to John Paul Jones, Nathan Hale was also a memorable hero. Nathan Hale was known for disguising himself to get information on the British when he was only 21 years old (“Nathan Hale volunteers”). When General George Washington asked for a volunteer
