John Newton’s “Amazing Grace” is part of the Charismatic Stream. Throughout this entire excerpt, Mr. Newton is praising God for all of His Goodness. He eloquently speaks of God’s grace in bringing him through dangerous trials and tribulations. He focuses on the good that has occurred in his life by comparing it to the difficult times that he experienced. The words in “Amazing Grace” seems to express great joy and gladness. Foster describes the Charismatic Stream as one that “gives special attention” to “life in and through the Spirit of God.” Like Paul who experienced an amazing transformation after being a persecutor of the Christians, John Newton experienced an amazing transformation after his last slave trade excursion on a ship.
