John Locke's Gideon Box

Decent Essays
"Gideon Box is the best doctor at saving the lives of children with heart conditions. He’s the right guy for hopeless cases, but as he is skillful, there’s no doubt he is a bad doctor.
This is the first of the much touted John Locke's books that I've ever read, and I understand he writes in a wide variety of genres. The writing style of this one, easy and fast paced, and most of the time over the top. Once again, John Locke weaves an exciting tale filled with interesting characters, characters you never know if you are to hate them or love them, and tells the tale at a fast pace that keeps you turning the page. It was an excellent read and well worth the money.

I first picked up Highly Illogical Behavior at the recommendation of Mrs. Bock. I had never read a book with a protagonist who had a mental illness that was present in the behavior and the overall plot proceedings throughout the novel. I usually tend to stay within the genres that I am familiar with - romance and realistic fiction. Most of the books that I read are about how a man and a woman fall in love in spite of emotional and physical strife. Highly Illogical Behavior, however, was about a man who had such severe social anxiety that he developed agoraphobia, thus rendering him incapable of leaving his house.…

The whole book floated smoothly even as he introduced new topics. The book’s structure of shifting back and forth from stories worked favorably for me because it kept me focused on the book. For example, Stevenson did not finish Walter’s story in just one or two chapters, but told it throughout the entire book. I like how he left the story of Walter’s story hanging with the mystery of what will happen next on his case.…

John Locke argues without difficulty that follows conceiving the same exact person at their resurrection, despite the differences the person’s previous body had whether it is a matter of make or parts, the very same consciousness goes along with the soul that occupies it. Putting the soul aside, the fact that there is a body swap so-to-speak, would “scarce to any one” except himself which makes the soul the man (383 Pojman Vaughn) John Locke illustrates and combines the whole consciousness and transfer of a soul onto any other body. He uses the prince and the cobbler to exemplify and define how souls and consciousness tie into personal identity and how it defines the self. According to John Locke, a person is “fixed” by being aware of the past.…
