Within the republic, the ultimate goal is to keep every person, citizen or not, at least moderately happy and to ensure that everyone is able to live comfortably without poverty and homelessness. While everyone who lives in the country is included in the goal, only the citizens are able to participate within the government. The citizens of the country are involved by voting on important topics and for elected officials. These elected officials have the ability to make laws for the country and to make decisions in a time of crises. Their job is to ensure the nation continues to function and everyone remains happy. If the officials do their jobs correctly, the country will be harmonious and prosper. However, if the officials are doing poorly at their duties, then the country will fall. Plato influenced my idea that the citizens should be virtuous. He wrote the most on the state remaining virtuous and made me understand that a sense of morality and virtue is necessary for the nation to survive. Aristotle furthered my belief in a unified people and helped me understand the different types of government. The Social Contract Theorists Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau influenced my theory on human nature. Their combined ideas on the state of nature to the social contract gave me the idea of the true nature of mankind. John Stuart Mills was the first philosopher we read to truly agree with a majority of my ideas on what the role of women is in society. These theorists combined helped me understand my own opinions on how the world works. My political theory will probably change again before I finish my political science degree, but for now this theory is what I believe will lead to the best society and
