March opens on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama during the first march from Selma to Montgomery known as “Bloody Sunday.” They were fearful of the troopers, who laid in wait for the marchers, but they held on to their faith which is shown when John Lewis states “we should kneel down and pray”and continued the march. Then violence comenses and the scene fades. The story then shifts to present day, which is the morning of January 20, 2009. Congressman Lewis does an excellent job with this novel. This unique animated memoir teaches the significance of true sacrifice and how peaceful civil disobedience can bring about change. This grayscale comic adds a breath of fresh air to this raw, emotional tale. I believe that this is a must read for everyone. John Lewis' story is a story of courage and he does a wonderful job uplifting the unsung heroes of the civil rights movement, such as Diane Nash and Jim Lawson. He also connects the past and present very well. The significance of Bloody Sunday and President Obama's inauguration, is important because it shows that their pain and struggle produced
