Later in life, he became very depressed and tried to commit suicide while in Hawaii, but he failed. Once he failed, he started to become very obsessed with many things, including John Lennon’s book. For some reason he wanted to become famous, and decided to kill John Lennon. Chapman had said if Lennon wasn’t as famous as he was, he wouldn’t have died, and Chapman also said that he would have killed either Johnny Carson or George C. Scott instead of Lennon. Chapman went to New York to kill Lennon but couldn’t go through with it, and got a CD he had with him signed instead. The night after that he went back and shot Lennon. Afterwards, he went to a nearby officer and turned himself in, while constantly saying he was sorry for making the police officers go through all this work. He then had 9 psychological evaluations for court, and six of the clinical psychiatrists have said “He is psychotic”. Since then Chapman has been denied parole 7 times.
