John Lackey Character Analysis

Decent Essays
John Lackey another quality pickup for the Cubs adding depth to their starting rotation that has reigning Cy Young award winner Jake Arrieta and John Lester. He’s an innings eater averaging 191 innings pitched per year, preserving the bullpen. The bullpen is the one concern for the Cubs because they are a little bit inexperienced and inconsistent.

He also has a lot of postseason experience, which always helps a young roster with very little outside of last season. His personality will also fit well in the Chicago clubhouse because he is so fiery and intense he will get young guys to focus when needed. The cherry on top is the Cubs were able to take two key players from the St. Louis Cardinals their arch rival.

Twelve months ago, Jonathan Lucroy was considered one most valuable targets at the trade deadline, before the Milwaukee Brewers dealt him to the Texas Rangers for a prospect heavy haul. Fast forward to now, and it seems like Lucroy may be hearing his name on the trade block again, very soon. According to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, Texas is open to moving Lucroy, and going forward with a catching duo of Robinson Chirinos and Brett Nicholas. The vast majority of his trades have turned out to be excellent, such as the trade that sent Zack Greinke to the Milwaukee Brewers for several minor league players, including current Royals All-Stars Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar. He also traded minor league star Wil Meyers to the Tampa Bay Rays for pitchers James Shields and Wade Davis. This trade made many people furious because Meyers was supposed to become an MLB star, and he never did. It turned out successful because James Shields became the Royals ace pitcher and led them to the World Series, and Wade Davis who was unknown back then, has transformed into one of the best relief pitchers in baseball. The most important trait of Dayton Moore is his ability to be an impactful leader and set this franchise up for success.…

As of today, he holds a 4.34 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 9 – 6 record. I think Price will come out of his first half slump and become that dominate pitcher we saw in Detroit, Tampa Bay, and Toronto. He is on a team that doesn’t lack run support, so it’s going to be up to him to get his ERA down and go on a run of wins to help his team secure a postseason position. I think the Red Sox will finish top in their division and get over the hump that is the Baltimore Orioles because of players like David Price and the newly acquired pitcher Drew Pomeranz. The Red Sox are on a 6 game winning streak and David Price is pitching tomorrow, so we can see if he can continue the trend of winning his team has already started or blunder an opportunity to catch the…

So sadly baseball is not what it used to be. We can no longer rely on Runs Bated In (RBI), or even Home Runs (HR) to see how effective a batter is, and we cannot simply use Earn Run Average(ERA) and Strikeouts(K) to judge how good a pitcher is. You see, around 1977, this guy named Bill James wrote a book call Bill James’ Baseball Abstract”, and it changed everything. Over the first few years the book was out, it became increasingly popular with scout and GM. It was a lot easier for them to analysis a players stats so they could quickly determine whether or not they could make it in the big leagues.…

One of the players I found interesting was Rube Marquard. I found him interesting because the thought of his dad not being able to believe in his son of making it in the pros. His dad was really focused on his education but not really focused on his goals and aspirations of the future. Rube’s dad would even get angry if Rube mentioned baseball. Rube was so passionate on being a professional ball player he decided to run away from home and go to play in a state league in Waterloo Iowa to show off what he has to offer.…
