In the 1980’s John Kirwan was the new face of professional rugby. A role that every Kiwi bloke dreamed of, however, in reality, John’s life was far from a dream. Throughout his rugby career, John battled with depression, a mental illness which had a substantial effect on his life. Multiple years of struggling were finally relieved after John sought help providing him the ability to overcome his illness. John currently plays a significant leadership role within sport in New Zealand (NZ) offering support to New Zealand athletes struggling with mental illness.
