General John J. Pershing, was a decorated and highly known United States Army General, who through strict and harsh discipline led numerous battles. General John J. Pershing quickly and efficiently moved through the ranks and commanded the American Expeditionary Force in Europe during World War I, and won victory of Germany.
He began in 1886, reporting to Fort Bayard, New Mexico Territory, where he was a part of the Troop L of the 6Th U. S. Cavalry. After leaving there, he served with the 6Th Cavalry at various posts throughout California, Arizona, and North Dakota from 1887-1890. In 1891 he was transferred to the University of Nebraska, as a professor of Military Science and Tactics, and while there received his law degree in 1893. He remained there until 1895. In 1895 he

He became a tactical officer in 1897; he was nicknamed “Nigger Jack,” and/or “Black Jack,” by cadets because of his strict discipline, and for his work with the African-American Tenth Calvary. (John J…) In 1897, General Pershing became an instructor to the tactical staff at West Point. He was then commissioned as a major of United States Volunteers in 1898, and given the task of an ordnance officer. After being honorably discharged from the volunteers he then returned to his permanent rank of first lieutenant in 1899. In 1900 Pershing was appointed Adjutant General of his department and served in this posting until 1901. He then returned to the United States in 1903. Then in 1905 he married Helen Frances Warren. She was the daughter of the chairman of the Senate Military Affairs Committee.
