Her terms would be under the customs of the new world society. In the new world society everyone belongs to everyone. So no one is in a committed single person to single person relationship, it is all open. It is like this because there is no need for people to have children and being in that type of relationship would cause taboo emotions that could “damage” the new world society. The problem with Leninas ideals of a relationship is that it does not fit with Johns ideals. John thinks that Lenina wants an actual relationship with him, something that is just not physical but emotional. The people are fascinated by the film, so much so that they go to the location that John is in and they treat him like a zoo animal. They throw food at him and start chanting because they want to see John whip himself again. John is angered by this sudden intrusion, he starts to scream at them and starts to throw things until he sees Lenina. Lenina goes towards him with outstretched arms and that is when John completely loses control. John lashes out on her, he starts yelling at her and whips her.
