John Searle’s View on dualism is the body shares the same nature as the mind but they are not alike. John's theory is called “supervenience”. Rene Descartes Faith live in substance dualism. But, like any other situation everything has it's limits. We are free to do, say, and think what we want as long as it's not harming anyone. Just because we have simple rules to follow does not mean they take away our free will. I believe I have the freedom to do as I please as long as it respects God, myself, and those around me. Spinoza shares the same view as Buridan on “Buridan’s ass”. They believe the human race does not have personal rights or liberty. In Jean Buridan’s paradox the donkey represents us. Spinoza explained that we aren't able to make reasonable judgments without guidance. Alyosha Karamazov realized he is free in Dostoevsky's The Brother’s Karamazov in the sense of accepting God as a guide. Choosing this path requires no great effort, which made him understand that he is free. Just the fact that he chose God as a leader does in fact mean he's free because it was his decision, he didn't have to go that route. Although he was uncertain on somethings he didn’t stray from God. Human beings are outside of determinism because Dostoyevsky to Sartre describes people as a liberty. Determinism is the motion that each occurrence, thought, and movement takes place as a matter of compulsion. Sartre deduced the properties of matter are defined by the laws of the material world.
