John Gray Research Paper

Theo Haimann once said, “Leadership is the process by which an executive imaginatively directs, guides and influences the work of others in attaining specified goals.” I believe that is my strongest quality. When I was little, even my parents seemed to look to me when my brother and I had a task, even though it didn’t always abide well with my brother who didn’t like being “shown up” by his younger sibling. For every situation I am put in, I don’t just accept the “follower mentality.” I want others to look up to me as somebody they desire to follow, just like a leader in my life that I strive to emulate, my mentor and band director, John Gray. Time after time, Mr. Gray continues to teach me about what it truly means to be a leader. When things get difficult, rather than easing off the gas, he pushes even harder. Gray’s diligence. My job in the praise calls me to make sure everything is set up, prepared, and runs smoothly for our chapel. The most difficult part of this job has been getting the school, grades 9 through 12, engaged. Nothing is worse than playing for a crowd who doesn’t care. Some days, though, the student body is into the music, and we leave them even wanting for more. This is what I strive for every time I go out on stage with my band mates. Days where I look into the audience, and all I see are blank stares are days that inspire me to work even harder. This inspiration brings out diligence as I put in the extra time and effort to focus on what the school wants to hear. For jazz band, being the captain is a significant role. Leading the group is not the only role, as I must also make sure the band is unified and working together. Without mutual respect and unity, we cannot function. If there is a disagreement, I personally take it into consideration to work it out and do not just blow it
