John Fitzgerald Kennedy(called Jack by family and friends) had a rich father,
Joseph Patrick Kennedy. John was born on May 29,1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts. John was second of nine children. His parents, Rose and Joseph Kennedy, were part of two of Boston’s best known Irish Catholic political families. John joined the Navy in 1941 and two years later was sent to the South Pacific, where he was in charge of a Patrol-Torpedo (PT)

He entered the 80th Congress in January 1947, at the age of 29, and immediately attracted attention for his young appearance and relaxed, casual style. Kennedy won reelection to the House of Representatives in 1948 and 1950, and in 1952 ran successfully for the Senate, defeating Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. On September 12, 1953, Kennedy married the beautiful journalist Jacqueline (Jackie) Lee Bouvier. Two years later, he had to go through a painful surgery on his back. While recovering from the surgery, Jack wrote a best-selling book, “Profiles in Courage,” which won the Pulitzer Prize for biography in 1957. After nearly earning his party’s nomination for vice president in 1956, Kennedy announced his candidacy for president on January 2, 1960. In the general election, Kennedy battled against, Richard Nixon. In November’s election, Kennedy won by a tiny amount, becoming the youngest man and the first Roman Catholic to be elected president of the United States. The trip was meant to bring attention to natural resources and conservation efforts. But he also used it to quiet down subjects such as education, national security, and world peace, for his run in 1964. John was aware that a feud among party leaders in Texas could put his chances of carrying the state at risk in 1964, and one of his goals for the trip was to bring Democrats together. The party left the hotel and went by motorcade to Carswell Air Force Base for the thirteen-minute flight to Dallas.
