Mission To Mars
“We choose to go to the moon, not because it is easy, but because it is hard” -John F Kennedy. Back in May of 1961, John F Kennedy challenged the United States to land a man on the moon, and be the first to do it. However, now the challenge has escalated from a moon landing to a landing on an entirely different planet… and living there. Many different organizations have proposed the idea and are currently working on figuring out if we can reach Mars. We have to ask ourselves, how much will it cost, who will do it, should we do it, what kind of technology will we have to develop, why should we go there of all of the planets, how will we do it, and what affect will it have on the astronauts picked to go? All of these questions

in Wall). Although many people have supported this project, some still have questions such as who will receive the benefits of this mission, or will the reward actually outweigh the costs? The expected cost of sending supplies and 4 astronauts to Mars according to Jennifer Chu Of MIT News will be about 4.5 billion dollars. The final cost of setting up the colony however according to Robert Zubrin of the National Space Society will be 50 billion dollars. This project is much more feasible than it seems however, as Zubrin writes, “Exploring Mars requires no miraculous new technologies, no orbiting spaceports, and no gigantic interplanetary space cruisers. We can establish our first small outpost on Mars within a decade.” The support of this project has come from many sources, which provide volunteers, financial resources, and respond to the ethical questions of the mission and have brought us one step closer to putting a man on …show more content…
As Jennifer Chu writes, “In total, the eventual cost of sending supplies beforehand, and launching the 4 astronauts would be about $4.5 billion. This would also take 15 Falcon Heavy rockets. However, this cost does not contain the price of equipment needed to be developed.” These technologies are not very far from our grasp however. Simple advances need to be made in the areas of 3D printers, the growing of crops, advanced space suits, and rockets. The advancements in 3D printing technology is for the colonists to be able to print spare parts for replacing anything that may break when they settle. Next, if astronauts were to bring enough food for the entire mission, they would need three thousand and forty five pounds of it, instead new plants were developed in seed pillows with special dirt that attracts water to fight gravity when planting crops. Finally, Scientists are quickly developing a space suit that is more flexible and easy to move in called the BioSuit. With all of these advancements to get us to Mars we could be there as soon as the 2030s. Many suggestions have been made about how to colonize Mars, but only a few have been actually considered feasible. One of these plans uses the natural resources that are already on Mars to colonize it called “Mars Direct”, however due to its straightforwardness, it wasn’t seriously considered by NASA until recently. The main idea

While the idea of living on Mars is exciting, it’s not necessarily ideal. Lisa Grossman’s article “SpaceX Mars Plan is Clever but Unconvincing” presents a stronger argument than Eric Betz’s article “The Falcon has Landed. Now SpaceX is Eyeing Mars” because overall, Grossman’s has more authority, is more logical, and uses better examples. 2 One of the main reasons Lisa Grossman’s argument is stronger is because overall, she has more credibility than Eric Betz. Although Betz is associate editor of Discover magazine and has written numerous articles on space and nature, Gossman has had years of experience in astronomy.…

Humans Shouldn’t waste Time and Money Visiting Mars There is so much data out there in this world that leads humans to want to go to other planets. Not only want to, but eventually people may need to go to other planets and there is a chance that it could become a huge part of life and a huge step up from where humans are today. A new galaxy has been discovered called TRAPPIST-1 which has seven Earth like planets, three of them suitable for life. If humans could get to this galaxy which is only 39 light years away, it could be a huge necessity. Most people think we should invest time and money going to Mars, to the moon, and then other planets in our solar system.…

Going to Mars may sound like the trip of a lifetime. Going to a planet that is so much different than our own, training with professional astronauts and, of course, flying in a spaceship. However, the Mars One plan has many flaws, such as an unrealistic amount of time to make the mission work, not enough money to buy space equipment, and a low food supply. One of the main problems with Mars One’s plan is the time they say it will take get the mission ready.…

The design of the plan has been specifically articulated to achieve the basis of a successful colonization. The objectives for the first mission will be to confirm water resources and identify hazards along with putting in place initial power, mining, and life support infrastructure. A second mission, with both cargo and crew, is targeted for 2024, with primary objectives of building a striving depot and preparing for future crew flights. The ships from these initial missions will also serve as the beginnings of our first Mars base, from which they can build a propelling city and eventually a self-sustaining civilization on Mars. The specifics of this plan seem to be the most feasible.…

Mars colonization means that we should send some normal people (enough for reproduction, at least 100 people), land on Mars and live in Mars. This is a similar process with what we have done in America. Our journey to Mars is truly difficult. Until now, we have or had 12 spacecraft orbit and 12 spacecraft land on Mars, but half of our mission failed on the journey to Mars (data from NASA). However, we are still incessant trying to get the gate of the Mars.…

Today marks a new day in American history, for NASA colonists –with support from Space X- have officially established an American territory on Mars. The start of this dream began in the beginning of the twenty-first century, and scientist may now call this dream a reality. None of this would be possible without the dedication of the astronauts who have risked their lives for their country. Their journey began with a devotion to the knowledge and training necessary to make the epic journey to Mars.…

Colonization poses many risks no matter what land is being colonized. History proves that finding new land may cause war. Wars between countries and against natives, have been caused by new colonies in unclaimed lands. Abbass Hassan Obbaiss, a historian from Iraq discovered that, “At the beginning of the 17th century the English and the French entered the arena of colonial conflict, sending trade missions and establishing colonies in different parts of the world. They engaged into an intense competition with the Dutch sphere of influence” (Colonial Conflicts).…

It is impossible and irrational for humans to live on mars. Humans will never live on mars because the planet is completely uninhabitable. Even though the planet has a source of water, and solid land to establish a human civilization, the planet lacks an atmosphere, similar to that of earth.…
