John F Kennedy What Ifs Analysis

Improved Essays
History has always been my favorite subject in school especially during high school. It helps us understand the past and how society functioned during periods of prosperity and despair. It can also be interpreted differently, which allows us to have a discussion about that difference in perspectives. History are stories of us. Stories that were not made up by an author looking for fame and recognition by the masses. They are based on something and/or someone in time that had enough impact on the world to change the direction of history. It is also fascinating to think about the "what ifs." What if President John F Kennedy survived the assassination attempt? Would he had been a great or terrible president? Could the Space Age lasted

History is a subject based on story telling. Sometimes, it is based off letters and written documents. History is not written down for others to learn in a nonbiased opinion in the present moment. Historians must go through these documents later and decide what is biased, and what is not. They must read about an event from multiple perspectives and try and pick out what happened and what is an opinion.…

Last month at Bremerton High school former marine, Joe Kennedy who is now an assistant Football Coach was asked to stop his “50-yard line” post game praying ritual. This ritual has never before been an issue, as he does it without bothering anyone or forcing anyone into joining prayer with him. It was not until a single parent complained that the school district noticed this and decided that even though his actions were “entirely well-intentioned” they had to take action against it. The grounds used for the complaint against Kennedy was that Bremerton is a public high school, therefore separation of church and state must be applied. With only one parent and the school district against his actions, Joe decided he was not going to back off of his “50-yard line” post game ritual, after all, he had plenty of people backing him up, including an atheist athlete and the athletes mother.…

The United States’s past eras, in specific the 1920’s and the 1950’s, are important because of the events which occurred.…

Most frequently; “What is history?”. This question is not truly a question or inquisition into the subject, but rather said to have the reader ponder an answer and to spur thinking. At the completion of her essay she sets up a dichotomy; either history “is an open wound and each breath I take in and expel healing and opening the wound again, over and over” or “a long moment that begins anew each day since 1492”. She clearly sides with the preceding not the latter, as seen by her self-insertion into history. Rather than focusing on just Eurocentric empirics and oversimplified accounts, Kincaid urges her reader to look beyond the benefits of simplified narratives the greater impacts of accurate…

In the article by Alison Knopf, Knopf talks about her concerns about Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy Jr is an advocate for ant-vaccination because he believe that vaccines causes autism. Kennedy Jr is trying to convince Donald Trump to remove laws pertaining to required vaccination in the children. The American Academy of Pediatrics responded immediately said “Claims that vaccines are linked to autism, or are unsafe when administered according to the recommended schedule, have been disproven by a robust body of medical literature. Delaying vaccines only leaves a child at risk of disease”. Knopf also said that the reason for the controversy was because Andrew Wakefield.…

In a haunting prediction of his future, John Fitzgerald Kennedy perfectly described his legacy when he said “a man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on”. The most distinctive feature that relates to John F. Kennedy is the phrase ‘a man may die’ due to his assassination, but his ideas and his presence still live in America. From every event that Kennedy endured in his presidency to the moment he was murdered, his life is preserved in the minds of those he influenced through the tasks he achieved as our nation’s 35th president. On May 29, 1917, John Fitzgerald “Jack” Kennedy was born as the second child of Joseph Kennedy Sr. and Rose Kennedy.…

Beginning in 1960, Washington D.C. experienced an influx of new diplomats from developing nations from the so-called Third World. After decades-long efforts of local civil rights activists, the national capital had been largely desegregated at that point in time. However, much to the embarrassment of the Kennedy Administration, this was not true for large parts of Maryland, through which the diplomats had to travel on their way to and from the United Nations headquarters in New York. The administration’s newfound interest to desegregate the restaurants along US-40, at least when it came to African diplomats, was taken up by CORE activists, who campaigned for general access for all people of color. Several weeks after the start of the campaign…

When most people think of a history class they imagine sitting in a dark lecture hall taking notes off a PowerPoint presentation, memorizing a few dates and people, repeating it on the test. Truly studying history, I learned, is more than memorization of a previously told story and accepting it as true. In this class I have learned history is about actively engaging the material, picking apart the details and nuances, creating and using timelines, finding deeper meaning in the material, asking questions, then looking again and digging deeper. It is not a passive study and not about memorization as I believed at the beginning of the semester. History is about asking questions and looking for answers, not just accepting what is already there, but…
