In 1961, John F. Kennedy was voted into office becoming the 35th president of the United States. John F. Kennedy was and still is the youngest president to take office, sadly he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. John F. Kennedy grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts with eight brothers and sisters. In the 1940s, as a Harvard grad, Kennedy enlisted into the Navy. Post Pearl Harbor, amidst World War II, JFK was on patrol along with a few crew members and they were rammed and sunk by a Japanese fighter boat. From there Kennedy led a group of survivors to a close by island. When JFK returned from battle, he ran for congress in his local Boston town and won. From there he became senator and worked his way up the totem pole.

Just eight days after Kennedy’s inauguration, Kennedy was briefed by the CIA about this plan that was formerly created when Kennedy’s precursor President Dwight Eisenhower was in office; this plan was known as the Bay of Pigs. Kennedy, eventually, and reluctantly approved and went through with Eisenhower 's plan to attempt to overthrow Castro. Kennedy was assassinated before he could finish his first term, he contributed to many important ideas and political movements during his short time in office, such as the cold war, the civil rights movement, the cuban missile crisis, and the fight against communism. John F. Kennedy was one of the main reasons on why the United States were the first ones to land on the moon and always ahead of the communists in the arms race. When JFK heard that Cuba was in possession of nuclear weaponry, he didn’t immediately act, he took the time to discuss with his advisors, rather than quickly jump to make a decision which could’ve been the wrong one. JFK decided to put a ring of ships around Cuba so no one could get in or out while demanding that Cuba dismantles the missile, which they did. By stopping to evaluate the situation, JFK helped evade a nuclear war which would’ve been devastating to the United State’s economy as well as the U.S. as a whole and of which the United States would probably still be recovering from to this very day. Without Kennedy’s peaceful approach to life we might’ve had to engage in a nuclear war during the Cold War. On top of all the international issues he did so much domestically also. He changed civil rights for African American’s forever by outlawing discrimination; without the civil rights act of 1964, discrimination would still be around and the feud between blacks and whites would still be going on today.
