John F Kennedy Contributions To Society

John Fitzgerald Kennedy had several contributions in the 1960’s which made his assassination one of the most devastating days in history. He went through some tough times before he became one of the most famous leaders of America. However, in 1961 he became the thirty-fifth president and the first to be a Catholic one. Little did he know when he began his presidency that he would have a numerous amount of impacts in his lifetime such as helping out with the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Peace Corps, the Bay of Pigs, and the Berlin Wall. John F. Kennedy had eight other siblings and was born into a wealthy family. As he grew up he became very successful and attended many prestigious schools such as Harvard. In 1941 J.F.K joined the navy and in 1943 he was sent into the South Pacific. (History.com Staff.) The Japanese struck a craft down in that year and luckily John F. Kennedy was there to rescue most of the crew. Unfortunately, his older brother, Joe Jr, died in the year 1944 when his plane exploded. Although President Kennedy’s plan had gone wrong, he was not afraid to admit that he failed and is still honored to this day. In 1963, during the Berlin Wall crisis, John F. Kennedy made one of his most famous speeches in Berlin. "We tell them, we will not give up. Berlin is true to those behind barbed wire as to fellow countrymen in the West and friends in the whole world." (Kennedy.)
