President Kennedy is argued to be the youngest presidents elected to office. Theodore Roosevelt was 42 years old when he was president; however he was the youngest person to assume office after William McKinley was assassinated. Therefore Roosevelt was never elected; he was simply taking over the role as president. Therefore on a technicality President John F. Kennedy was the youngest president to be elected at the age of 43 years old ("Life of John F. Kennedy.")

He was appointed the South Pacific as commander of a patrol torpedo boat. He was given the assignment to keep Japanese ships from delivering their supplies to their soldiers. Japanese destroyer ran right into the PT-109 splitting the ship in half. John survived; however they were stranded until two natives found them. The next day they were rescued and brought back home. He then received the Marine and Naval Corps medal. Although his brother Joe was killed one year later, his plane blew up while on an assignment in Europe ("Life of John F. Kennedy.")
John then got more involved in politics when his father convinced him to run for congress in Massachusetts. He won in 1946. Later he was elected to U.S. Senate in 1952. Soon after he was elected at thirty-six he married Jacqueline Bouvier who was twenty-four at the time. She was a writer. Early in their marriage, she wrote for the Washington Times –Herald. Senator Kennedy had more back problems and had two major surgeries. While he was injured, he wrote a book entitled Profiles in Courage. He received a Pulitzer Prize for the book in 1957. In 1956 he decided to run for Vice President, he didn’t get picked however; he decided to run for President in the next election. On the thirteenth day of July in 1960, He was nominated by the Democratic Party for President. He asked Lyndon B. Johnson, a Senator from Texas, to run with him for Vice President. In the general election in November 8, 1960 he won the election. He was the youngest President to be elected into office and the first Catholic. On November 25, 1960 his son John F. Kennedy Jr. was born ("Life of John F.
