This would eventually be the most important factor in his decision to run for president in 1960. John used his charm and wits to beat Hubert Humphrey in the Democratic primaries. He would go on to select Lyndon B. Johnson as his running mate to help take on Richard Nixon in the general election. The debates between Kennedy and Nixon were at the time the most televised program, with Kennedy smoothly talking through each debate. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22nd, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery on November 25th, 1963. Today, there are many memorials in place to pay respect and recognize Kennedy’s life and service in the United States. There is a bronze statue of the president in Fort Worth, Texas which was sculpted by Lawrence Ludtke. His side profile is located on the side of the half-dollar coin, and has a memorial dedicated to him in Dallas, Texas. Several hundred schools are named after the president, and also has a presidential library dedicated to him in Boston, Massachusetts. His legacy lives on in our country, with or without museums and
