I could always count on his self-directed efforts, especially during the upgrade to the air-bearing goniometer, M1 mirror motorization, and the design and implementation of our pneumatics system. Darren’s predilection is to treat diagnostic and troubleshooting tasks as puzzles, thus encouraging a positive environment during potentially stressful times. These qualities have engendered a level of trust that I rely on as I can always expect from him an honest and accurate assessment of a situation. Luckily, his work began at the ALS and the MBC was able to keep him as a part-time employee until March 2008. Since then, he has been available to help the beamline on a consulting basis.
