John Edward Essay

Do you know who John Edward is? In case you don’t— he’s a medium. Do you know who Doctor Oz is? I’m willing to bet that you do. Do you know what these two have in common? No? Well, to put it bluntly and in the most basic terms I can; they both hosted popular TV shows where they deceived their audience members. That’s not to say they’re both bad people. In fact, one of these men is earnestly trying to help people and make them feel better (the other… is John Edward). Jokes aside, John Edward was the host of a Sci-Fi show called Crossing Over. You may or may not have heard of it, it was never as big as The Doctor Oz Show now is. What Edward managed to get away with on that show was honestly astounding. It was astounding in that he seemed to get away with lying to his in studio audience and viewers weekly. The show was clearly a hoax, and the only people to call John Edward out on it were South Park writers. One wants to put you at ease with your dead relatives or friends, and the other wants to help you live longer. The morals don’t justify the deceit though. They’re made out to be these all-knowing, benevolent men. They’re not. They’re TV hosts. Just because someone has a suit on and what they’re saying sounds like it applies to you, doesn’t mean you should take their advice. Go to a professional doctor for your medical diagnosis. Go to a priest, a rabbi, or whoever else for your spiritual guidance. I guess what I’m saying is they’re just TV hosts. These two guys are on TV to entertain. If millions of people tune in, how could it possibly be specific enough for it to apply to you? The TV set already controls too many aspects of your life. Don’t let your mental & spiritual health be controlled as well, especially not by two guys making random
