(An analysis of the phrase, “No man is an island” from Meditation 17 by John Donne.)
Strength as a whole nation is something that Americans have that they are able to be proud of. This is something that was stronger many years ago too though. As society has grown, and technology has become more advanced, society has started to grow apart in their relationships with one another. In Meditation 17 by John Donne, it is said that “No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of a continent, a part of the main.” I believe that still today this is true, but not as strong as before. This is true because every person has people around them that love them, or have been helped by this person. When someone dies, the family grieves, and people in the community bring them food or flowers and help out the family to make the grieving process easier for the family. “And when she buries a man, that action concerns me: all mankind is of one author and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated.” This is from Meditation 17 and ties directly into the fact that no man is an island, or no man is all alone. When someone dies, it affects everyone around them, not just the one person who has died. This shows that sometimes our world is like one whole and every person is just a part of it, but everyone is one part of it together with everyone
