Ebay And All My Life: A Comparative Analysis

When purchasing clothing, we often choose based on color or style. The background story of how it was made or history of its prior use usually is irrelevant as long as it is fashionable. The converse sneakers that were for sell on Ebay and “All My Life” have similarities in their descriptions in a different approach to capture the buyers attention.

The Ebay description of used converse shoes and the convers in “All My Life” uses subjective descriptions to appeal to the buyers. John Freyer, seller for items in “All My Life”, uses an illustration about how these shoes were made and the impact on the American economy. He describes the shoes being made by “…13 year old children working for the sweat shops run by Nike and the like.” He continues to explain that the Converse All-Stars are the “last American shoe…” because “their true allegiance is to the profits rather than to the American people”. His assumption is that the Converse All Stars will now be made by “slave labor in china, and even though they will cost less than $1 to make, they will still cost $32.00 in the store…yep that’s right, the $32.00 that used to support American working families will now go directly to corporate CEO’s”. The Mr. Freyer uses his description in “All My Life” uses a picture of original blue converse to begin the imagery of his product. As you transiton to reading his description, the visual that develops on the readers head is “13 year old children working for sweatshops creating”. Likewise, the Ebay product provides an actual picture of the shoes being sold. Along with the picture the seller adds in their information: “so I’m wearing my shoes in the pictures and you can get the details of their condition by looking at them yourself”.
