Even though the woman's husband’s hair is getting white haw still adores it. There is alliteration in the beginning of the poem when it says, "your bonnie brow was brent". The use of the same consonant sounds at the beginning of the words placed by each other and are usually on the same or next line. Robert Burns uses repetition by repeatedly saying,” my jo, John” and “ John Anderson, my Jo.” While reading the poem I also had seen a simile being used when the wife of John Anderson stated that his locks of hair are like snow. The tone of the poem is cheerful and romantic because of the word choices like, cantyt , which means cheerful , and jo , which means sweetheart. The tone and mood of the poem helped with identifying the theme of the poem because usually the repetition of certain words or phrases gives a good idea of what’s important in the piece.
