A.1 The self discovery model or the Johari window model is indeed an excellent tool which helps people better understand their relationship with themselves and others by putting their personalities in one of the four quadrants in the Johari windows model, namely – 1. Open area - People with personalities in this area are assumed to be very extrovert and they themselves as well as others know a lot about them and their strengths and weaknesses. 2. Blind area - In this area, the personalities are such that others know many things about the subject person even the things that they themselves don’t know about them. 3. Firstly, Dipa Karmakar the first Indian female gymnast to compete in Olympics was denied of her request to get accompanied by a physiotherapist for the Olympics just because the officials thought it would be a wasteful expense to send a physiotherapist to Rio. As we were told that in this course, we’ll have activities for the purpose of our assessment and also, they’ll be used as a way of teaching, to improve our communication, I thought that it was just the course that I needed and it even proved to be so.
A.5 I learnt many things from this course which would help me become an effective communicator, few of them are –
• The biggest learning for me was the understanding of the Johari window model which showed me that I have a hidden personality i.e. I know very well what my strengths and weaknesses are but others don’t know much about me, so I need to be more open and tell others what is so unique about me. This would not only help me in communicating with others, also it’ll help when I work in groups.
• I also learnt the importance of feedback in any communication through the activity where one partner was given a drawing to memorize and then when we were asked to imagine if the activity was done where the first partner was blind-folded, it would have been almost
