Many people assume fast food workers are uneducated and lazy. Franklin reveals that this is not always the case. The workers in this story range anywhere from a college drop out, to a man with a MD. By writing about each co-worker’s past and present, the reader is able to connect with the characters, and see that things are not always what they seem. I chose this selection because I found it amusing, and I thought it discussed an important issue in the world today. Many people are too quick to judge and do not realize that everyone has a story that lead them to where they are. In Joey Franklin’s “Girl Fight”, Franklin retells a story of when he was teased for dating an overweight girl. The instigator, Marty, ironically had an overweight mom, so Franklin was astonished when Marty poked fun at his girlfriend’s weight. Filled with anger, Franklin chased Marty out the school, and with out thinking, screamed, “Not as fat as your mom!” (www.brevitymag.com). These words left him in pain as Marty chucked a basketball at Franklin’s head. Lying in humiliation, boys swarmed around and his coach became disgusted of his softness. Franklin remained frozen on the ground, torn between wanting his girlfriend to comfort him, and never seeing her
