Joey Franklin Working At Wendy's Analysis

“Don’t judge a book by it's cover” this is a saying I’m sure most people have heard, but how many of us really take it to heart? In the essay “Working at Wendy’s,” written by Joey Franklin, the truth of this statement is really brought to light. Anyone can find a time, just as Franklin did, when he or she felt as though they were being judged unfairly. I know there have been many times in my life where I have felt as though people have made poor presumptions about me, and where I have been guilty of the same offense. One night he calls his dad and they start to discuss his Wendy’s job (29). Joey writes “I am stuck wondering why I should have to explain anything at all. I wonder what his reaction would be if I had chosen to get more student loans instead of the part-time job.” (29). Here he is beginning to understand that what other people think really doesn’t matter. In the end, if he is confident and happy, then it is all worth it. My own experience with piano has taught me this same lesson. Once I became confident with the level I was playing at, I started to get better and better. I now play at a level 8, and although that is still not as good as some of my peers I am proud of myself for making it that far. When I make up my mind to not be ashamed and to be confident with who I am and what I do I find, just as Joey did, that I no longer feel the need to explain myself. I am happy with what I do and that is all that
