She said, “Never forget where you came from, treat others with respect, and don’t lose sight of your goals. Managing others can be a difficult task, but when things get tough remember there are people looking to you for guidance.” I really enjoyed interviewing Nicole, I learned a lot about retail management during this

Kathryn, as a new store manager, needs to gain the confidence and trust of her department heads and sales associates. Part of accomplishing this task is by providing her employees the opportunity to communicate with her through an open-door policy when it comes to questions or concerns with tasks. The purpose of this is two-fold: showing her employees she is approachable and that she is knowledgeable of stores products and practices. To enhance and reinforce the lines of communication, store meetings should be scheduled.…

Wal-Mart’s dynamic leader, whose vision, empathy, and work ethic centered on achieving his objectives through hard work, with consideration for, and inclusion of all associates, enabled him to inspire others to work toward achieving his vision (Bergdahl, 2004). Ultimately, through the creation and maintenance of a healthy organizational culture, in which all management decisions and employee behavior align with Sam Walton’s vision and the three central values on which the organization was founded, Wal-Mart has grown to become both a cultural icon, and a neighborhood landmark; the epitome of retailing success. Continuation of Wal-Mart’s commitment to cultural, leadership and management excellence will likely continue to set this organization apart from most others, forever altering the landscape of American…
