One of the age old questions that plague this earth is the thought that things like murder, corruption, and deviance are coded into the human genome, and that when these genes meet in certain frequencies, coupled with environmental and social factors, it leads to the creation of outliers. Or, in Joel Rifkin’s case, among others, to the birth of a serial killer. Joel Rifkin was born in New York in January of 1959, the adopted son of Bernard and Jeanne Rifkin from a pair of unwed college students. Rifkin is known for the deaths of at least 17 women in the 1990’s, targeting prostitutes and drug addicts, acting upon inspiration from Hitchcock’s Frenzy, strangling his victims and using elaborate methods to hide the bodies. …show more content…
In order to prevent identification and to protect himself, Rifkin removed the fingertips and teeth from the body before dismembering the body and scattering the pieces. Rifkin was caught after the murder of 17th victim, Tiffany Bresciani, whom was wrapped in a tarp and hidden inside a garage before being moved to the trunk of Rifkin’s car. On his way to dispose of the body, Rifkin was pulled over by a police officer due to a missing license plate on the back of his car. Panicked, Rifkin tried to drive away but ended up crashing into a utility pole at which the authorities noticed a strong odor coming from Rifkin’s car.
