Joel Osteen Book Report

Decent Essays
Hello Danisha Kirkland
I enjoyed your post and I think you came up with a good point with Joel Osteen’s sermon. I saw a lot of people who are giving up so easily that they have started. I was also one of them. If I have stared something and when this thing start to getting hard, I easily just gave up because it was easy to just give up than holding it and said that it is not what God calls me for. However, just like you mentioned, we cannot just give up because it is not finished yet as long as God is not finish with me. Thank you!

Throughout Breakfast with Buddha, Merullo writes about the lessons Rinpoche teaches to Otto. More of the straight forward lessons and guidance occur in chapters 23-34. These lessons are more like ideas for Otto to think about and if it would be acceptable to apply to his daily life. But, not only are the lessons for Otto to consider, they are meant for the audience to consider for themselves personally. When Otto and Rinpoche settle back in at the St. Mary’s Inn, Otto begins reading Rinpoche’s book.…

The third Athenaeum was giving by writer Joshua Shenk. The majority of the Athenaeum consisted of Mr. Shenk reading a passage of the book he was writing. The book, as Mr. Shenk discussed, focuses on the life of Bill Wilson, the creator of Alcoholics Anonymous. Mr, Shenk said that he found Bill Wilson’s life interesting because Bill Wilson was placed on a pedestal by the people he helped through Alcoholics Anonymous, but he struggled with his own problems such as addiction to LDS and depression. Personally, I did not find Mr. Shenk’s book interesting.…

As main stream denominations continue to shrink and modern day evangelicalism has morphed into something more politically and conservatively centered, I found “Rescuing Jesus; How People of Color, Women and Queer Christians are Reclaiming Evangelism”, by Deborah Jian Lee, enlightening, profound and hopeful as it centers on new, out of the box ways in which people generally pushed into the margins, are redefining their evangelical Christianity. “Evangelicalism is anything but a monolith; it is a vastly diverse landscape”. Meaning, not all evangelicals are the same and perhaps what we think of them or how we envision them is way off the mark.…

The book “Why Church Matters: Discovering your place in the Family of God” by Joshua Harris influenced my perspective, opinion, and the decision about the church. Firstly, this book helped me to develop a different point of view of the local church. Before I was not giving so much importance to it. For me, belonging to a universal church was better than belonging to the local one. I did not want to commit to a place where sometimes people lead with their own desires.…

We Christian counselors are called to partner with our Lord Jesus Christ. As mentioned by Hawkins & Clinton in their book,"The ultimate task of a Christian counselor is to be Christ's partner in the process of redemption and restoration (2015, p.21)". We are anointed by God to minister as the Word declares, "The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners(Isaiah 61:1). We are sent out to the mission field, the broken and fallen world, to serve the people suffering from all kinds of emotional wounds, broken relationship, affliction, trials, fears, worries and…

My life has been centered on sports for the majority of my life and it’s one of the things I’m most passionate about. When I grow up I imagine myself being a sports trainer or running my own gym for athletes to train in just like me. So for my may program I wanted to find an internship that could replicate this notion. From a friend’s recommendation I found first athlete, a sport’s training gym, to be the perfect fit and I knew it would teach me more about what goes on behind the scenes of training. I see myself as being a capable leader and I strive for success so the book I read throughout may program was “Be the First Believer”, by Ed Deutschlander, where he covers all the values a great leader should have and why successful business people and athletes are so successful.…
