Joe DiMaggio is in the song for many multiple reasons. He was known as the greatest of his time and he set many standard records you may have heard of today. He married actresses Dorothy Arnold and Marilyn Monroe. Probably one of his most famous feats was his 56 game hitting streak, which still stands today and will stand for many years into the future. He was inducted with early access and high honors. After his induction is when Mrs.Robinson was written with the line “where did Joe DiMaggio go…”. Joe thought it was supposed to be a rude gesture, but it was meant to be asking “where did all the greats go”. Some people still argue over the line in the song, saying that Simon hated Joe. Simon later clarified that he didn’t mean for Joe to take it the wrong way.(The Streak). Joe lived a full life of happiness and pleasure, but nothing lives forever. Joe died on March 8, 1999 in Hollywood, Florida. The doctors later believed that the cause of death was lung cancer. Later that year his son would also pass away. Joe lived to be 84 years of age when he died. He was buried at Cemetery Cross in Colma, California. Joe lives on today still amazing those that see his records and doings.
