Joe Mackville was in a terrible accident when he was twenty eight years old. He awoke in the hospital as an amputee. The doctors told him he lost his legs in the collision. He wanted to participate so he signed up. Other people at the track saw him write his name and they started whispering to each other saying rude things. Joe noticed but didn’t care. The closer the race day came the more nervous he felt. He wanted to give up, but he knew his parents would be disappointed with him so he continued preparing for the race. Joe got up early on race day, made some breakfast and headed out to the track. He was surprised to see so many people, including his friends, who were either there for support or to laugh at him if he messed up. Once in position to start the race Joe looked at the other racers. They seemed to be very talented in the art of go-kart racing, so Joe knew he would have to give it his all. The gun fired and they took off. Joe finished the race in first place. After the race he felt his friends would never judge him unfairly for his disability again. Unfortunately he also came to the understanding that there would always be some one to judge him no matter his accomplishments, but at the end of the day he knew inside that he could always beat them in a race and that's what really
