His forgiveness is further shown with Mrs. Joe Gargery, instead of reacting with the same amount of mistreatment, he understands her actions and remembers her better times.
Knowing that abuse does nothing for woman, his example of this being his own mother and father. Despite Joe’s absent education, there is a sense of immensely deep wisdom that can only be gained by real world experiences. His wisdom triumphs his education, that and his abundance of patience and peace is what makes him such a likable character within “Great Expectations”.
Pip is a character of much more complexity, Pip to some, is the perfect story of a man who goes from rags to riches. To others, he’s nothing more than a man who has consistently fallen to the harsh reality of lust.
