Joe Fischer: Ready Now For The Future

Frank Knox, a publisher, once said, “No matter what happens, the U.S. Navy is not going to be caught napping.” Resting is not an option will serving in the Navy since you’ll always be on the edge of your seat at any given moment. Regardless of how strong or weak you are, you’re going to need to carry your own weight. Joe Fischer is a hero because even though he didn’t know how to swim, he showed bravery and determination serving as a plumber on a Navy ship to accomplish greater goals later in life. Fischer faced many obstacles while growing up. Since his parents died at a young age, but he was later raised by his Aunt. Although he faced such heartbreak he was an only child, he wanted to make his father proud. His father was in the army during World War I and those were big shoes he had to fill to honor the Fischer name. Joe joined and served in the U.S. Navy between 1955-1959 at the age of eighteen. In “Ready Now for the Future,” one researcher explains it: no matter in unity or in combat the Navy and Marine Corps can work together in duty to contribute to their fellow Americans (Debbink).
