Joe DiMaggio was one of the greatest hitters and center fielders in all of baseball history. He set many records, including a 56 game hitting streak in 1941. DiMaggio won 9 World Series titles during the 13 years with the New York Yankees. DiMaggio came to America as the son of a poor Italian immigrants, but then later grew up to be a baseball legend. Joseph Paul DiMaggio was born on November 25, 1914. He was born in Martinez, California. Joe was the 8th child of Giuseppe and Rosalie DiMaggio. His parents were poor Italian immigrants who moved from Sicily to California in 1898. Joe has 3 brothers and 3 sisters. He grew up in a city by the bay and played sandlot baseball with his 2 brothers, Vince and Dominic (Cohen 50). His brother Vince had played with the minor league San Francisco Seals. In 1930, at the age of 16, Joe DiMaggio dropped out of Galileo High School to dedicate his life to baseball. Later then, Joe signed with the minor league as well. Shortly after the couple wed, an incident between the couple occurred immediately after. DiMaggio was retired, while Monroe’s career was skyrocketing (Nagle 64). A month later after the incident Marilyn contacted the services of celebrity attorney. She filed for divorce for “mental cruelty” 9 months after the wedding (Roberts 55).
