They also provide an adequate argument where they do have a small sample size but have gathered enough data to make the research strong. They have provided the reader with tables and statistics in the article so the reader can grasp the material thoroughly. Tremblay and Sauvêtre conducted a sampling technique that further helped them acquire knowledge towards the study, which will be discussed later on in this reaction paper.
In this reaction paper I will argue the technique that Tremblay and Sauvêtre presented in the journal “"Jockeys and joyriders" revisited: young offenders ' involvement in motor vehicle thefts in the province of Quebec”, is in a micro individualistic fashion, where they have focused on the offenders alone. “We examine the spillover effect of criminal market opportunities on the behavior of young offenders.” (Tremblay and Sauvêtre pg.168). Furthermore Tremblay and Sauvêtre take a peek at the offender’s background. They examined what drove the offenders to commit auto theft, Most Jockey’s stole automobiles for money and they were less likely to get caught as they did the task alone. On the other hand, the Joyriders stole cars for the ride and they were in larger groups. “About half of the jockeys …show more content…
One thing Tremblay and Sauvêtre should have focused on the offenders family criminal history. The research states that brothers and uncles were at times also apart of teaching the offenders how to commit auto theft. We should further investigate how uncles, brothers, and other family members affect the offenders. What can we do to make sure the future individual’s that are prone to auto theft due to family history do not end up in the same boat? I would also like to further research what the individual’s wealth status was. Were the families they originated from wealthy or poor? This could also explain why the offenders committed the crime, due to lack of money the jockeys stole cars to make a profit or the offenders didn’t have rights to a car so they went ahead stole another car for there own amusement. Criminality is a serious matter and the more we study it the better it is for our future. If we do not look into all aspects of criminality then we may never find our
